Today marks the 46th year of the movement most commonly known around the world as Earth Day, and on this annual event you’ll find people coming together far & wide lending their time as well as their services in order to restore some form of hope for future generations to come.
I’m reminded of the wisdom that the elders from within the Iroquois society inferred when they put into practice a philosophy that encourages us, “…to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.”, as once proclaimed by ~Wilma Pearl Mankiller, first female Chief of the Cherokee Nation~
Additionally, it is said that…
The Seventh Generation philosophy is integral to Haudenosaunee life. It intensifies the bond of community, promotes stability, and provides concrete values with which each person can test his or her everyday actions. Although the Haudenosaunee practice ancient traditions, their culture is not frozen in the past. Their ability to adapt to dramatic change and survive on their own terms is historically proven, but they are equally focused on the security of future generations.
“The Peacemaker taught us about the Seven Generations. He said, when you sit in council for the welfare of the people, you must not think of yourself or of your family, not even of your generation. He said, make your decisions on behalf of the seven generations coming, so that they may enjoy what you have today.”

So, on this splendid occasion I have taken it upon myself to do my part by planting a few…

Along with several…

Some…

Along with some…

and finally a few…

With that said, I ask of you to please do something beneficial for Mother Earth today and everyday – not only will she appreciate it, but so will those that will inhabit her landscapes long after we have utilized our green thumbs to assist in being the best stewards we could be during our time here lost in paradise.
Oh and like any celebration it would not be complete without a little music, so if you don’t would mind joining me in singing the Earth Day Anthem:
Joyful joyful we adore our Earth in all its wonderment
Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touchWe make our home a newborn world
~Earth Day Anthem (William Wallace)~
See now that wasn’t so bad…Happy Earth Day, don’t forget to get your hands dirty!
