After conducting a substantial amount of research, collecting loads of data and taking some memorable pictures along the way…here are but a few of the highlights from my most recent expedition.
As I mentioned in previous post, I am humbled to say that I have been afforded the opportunity to study and obtain my Master’s in World Heritage and Cultural Projects for Development jointly organized by the Università degli Studi di Torino, the Politecnico di Torino and the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC/ILO), in collaboration with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and ICCROM, due to the fact of being accepted by the Master’s Scientific Committee.
It is amazing how things are falling into place and THIS aligns perfectly with the project I was recently granted to work on with the Water Resources Research and Documentation Center (Warredoc), the UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) and the Università per Stranieri di Perugia.
Additionally, my role as a (self-funded) Collaborative Researcher allows me to produce digital maps and story maps of UNESCO natural & cultural heritage sites with the use of GIS technology and geospatial data. That said, I have chosen to map the “Monumental Earthworks of Poverty Point and the Bayou (Bayou Maҫon) that supports this Land Formation”.
In conjunction with this, my ultimate goal is to have Bayou Bartholomew, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; which will bring world wide attention to the beauty of our naturally gorgeous state of Arkansas.
That being said, here’s a historical overview of the World Heritage Site I’ve chosen to produce digital & story maps of, in collaboration with Warredoc & UNESCO.
Aphrodite’s Delights and Sophisticated SolWorks supports the preservation of Cultural & Natural Monuments through independently funded research. This short film is courtesy of and with permission for the utilization of my research from © Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism – Office of State Parks (All Rights Reserved.)
Enjoy and please take time to visit the site for yourself, so that you can take in the wonderment of this monumental land formation.
Furthermore, the Interpretive Park Rangers were kind enough to entrust me with utilizing these items whilst I was gathering more data for my GIS Mapping project.
In addition, you’re witnessing two hours and ten minutes filled with magical & mystical wonders…thank you ever so much Mr. Warren Gouner (aka the Airport Commissioner of Jack Stell Field Airport), an extremely hardworking man (Anesthesiologist by day, Pilot by night) for having agreed to fly me across the border to Louisiana. It just so happened to have been the weekend when he wasn’t on-call at the hospital and he offered to wake up bright & early in order to accommodate my schedule. Oh and did I mention he did it for FREE, because he simply likes flying as well of being of assistance to others. How magnificent it is to be gifted what some would deem, the experience of a lifetime❣
You have no idea how much this act of kindness has aided me in my research, let alone my ability to produce viable content for the CrowdMapping competition I’m a participant of for Warredoc…continually blessed & highly favored❣
Oh and let me extend an additional bit of gratitude to the Morehouse Parish Library, because had I not found you along my path on the way down to the Monumental Earthworks of Poverty Point World Heritage Site, I would have been in a world of hurt.
I can’t wait to upload all of the information (digital & story maps) I’ve collected & created thus far, as this has been an adventure that I’ll forever be humbled to have participated in.
Lastly, if you’re interested to know, this is just how serendipitous my life is at times…
I first heard a podcast episode from the brilliant broadcast journalist of HowStuffWorks, Stuff You Missed In History Class, in November of 2014 when I was living on the island of Bali and low & behold I was selected to map a UNESCO World Heritage Site, of which I chose this one for familia reasons.

Oh and if you would be willing to make a contribution towards my research along with my Masters’ Candidacy, you can do so at this link | Paypal.me/JenniferTrotter
Thank you in advance for your time, invaluable consideration & possible donation❣
