Baby it’s COLD outside…self-care for your COILS during the winter months

When the temperatures outside begin to drop, adhering to our self-care routines becomes essential to our overall well-being.

Since I’m currently at home visiting my family in the Pacific Northwest, I have once again found myself whipping up natural remedies. This particular one allows for me to ward off the frizzes that come with the falling temperatures.

With that said, I do my best to treat all extensions of myself with the greatest of care and that includes my naturally curly hair…

Feel free to whip up my homemade deep conditioner. I’ve been using this concoction since 2009 and it still leaves my hair feeling pillowy soft along with allowing for a lot of slip when detangling my coils. Keep in mind that depending on the length and thickness of your hair, you might have to adjust the measurements I’ve shared below.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Three over ripened avocados

Rose water

Virgin Coconut Oil

Apricot Oil

Tea Tree Oil

In a medium size mixing bowl place three tablespoons of honey, a few splashes of rose water, 1/4 cup of coconut oil, 1/4 cup of apricot oil, 1/4 cup of tea tree oil and your peeled avocados.  Blend all of the ingredients thoroughly, ensuring not to leave any lumps. The easiest way to obtain a smooth consistency is by using a handheld mixer or you can use the back of a spoon if you don’t have access to a mixer.

Please note that you can also substitute jojoba oil, grape seed oil, sweet almond oil or (pure) glycerin for any of the oils I mentioned above and you can add a few drops of rosemary essential oil or peppermint essential oil to aid in the affects of this nourishing treatment.
