Who else is looking forward to 2016? Well I am, and that’s mainly due to the fact that the World Premiere for this film will be at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. With that being said, you can be certain that I’ll be one of those in line eagerly awaiting to see this once it reaches the city I’ll be living in at the time of it’s opening.
The cast is a bevy of well honed actors, that I’m looking forward to seeing in these refined roles. The incomparable Nate Parker wrote, directed and acted in this historically documented rebellion; alongside him you’ll note Armie Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Earle Haley, Gabrielle Union and Mark Boone Jr.
Keep in mind, this time in our nation’s history has been told from certain points of view for quite sometime. Fortunately, there are some historians and educators who are dutifully re-telling the full scope of the (his)stories that have shaped a substantial portion of our understandings of race relations during the time of the antebellum era. Most importantly, they are doing this by highlighting the shifts that took place in the infrastructure of the US government just after the Civil War.
